"Still Life Drawings"
|
Exhibition Text: I created these drawings in the perspective of daily objects and scenarios. There was no particular theme or inspiration, merely the simplicity of the objects. I drew these pictures, pencil on paper, and it does not come directly from any existing/known artist.

Meaning of the Art Piece
At first, I had no particular meaning to it, however, it became a little clear to me the longer I worked on it. Perhaps the meaning of procrastination since I decided to create this a month before it was due and my original idea was to create 12 self-portraits from 12 different art movements. Also, it can also lead to beauty in simple household object, although, not every one of the drawing is a household item, such as the tree, however, it fits the theme of what makes the environment and environment.
Process
* Create or find shapes that you want to draw, it has to be still life.
These are a few of the shapes and pictures of what I decided to draw.

Connection to the ACT
1) I did not have a significant inspiration to this project, although, the few objects in my house inspired me to recreate their nature of simplicity that has many thoughts of complexity. The effect it had on my work was not very apparent as I've tried my best to illustrate their outer appearance and neglecting their inner ones.
2) Since I did not try to emulate any artist/art movement, there was no point of view. However, my point of view is to describe the objects, not in words, in appearance, as I've tried to give them depth and perception, while shading their other halves.
3) I did not discover any significant conclusions regarding my project, however, I've created a conclusion that fits these simple images. Beauty is not merely in appearance, it is also in taste, and it's usefulness. These simple pictures are not merely pictures, they are capable of weighing deep thoughts and emotions unspeakable to the unaware.
4) The central idea around my theme or inspiration is beauty in non meaningful objects. These objects hold no particular meaning, yet when put to use, they have a whole method of handling and their importance becomes apparent. These objects have the capabilities of creating and containing, thus why they've been created.
5) The conclusion I've made of this project was that these objects hold beauty comparable to even flowers. Everything has a duty, whether it's the flowers that are there to shine their beauty upon others and to the plate that is there to hold food for the hungry. I did not do any research as I've wanted to begin simple and end simple.

Reflection
Every morning, I had decided to draw one picture until I had all 12 completed, sometimes I got impatient, thus I's draw more than one at a time. I would take simple household items or food and I would arrange them such they give a distinct look/appearance and atmosphere. I enjoyed trying to be creative and finding different looks, however, I don't believe I found many of them. I tried using the crosshatching method to provide shading to each drawing, I believe it somehow succeeded somehow it didn't, depends on each piece.
While working on this project, I had many other things going on, therefore, I was not as creative as I wanted to be, and mostly, I cannot deny the fact that laziness and procrastination affected me majorly. I felt rushed while working on this, thus I'm not too happy with how it turned out, I know that I can do better, but I decided to stick to simple and easy methods to complete this project and move on to other things, if I had taken my time and not procrastinated, I would have made a portrait of myself using different art movement each. Such great idea, paired with me who does not like doing anything that'd take time and bother me. Although, I love painting, I was not ready to begin this torture while having many other things compiled.
Advantages with this piece is that I had household items everywhere, as such a house should have, however, I did not know which to draw, I chose easy things to draw in order to calm my frustration and prevent my anger from surfacing. I wouldn't have liked breaking my art out of anger after all the dedication and hard work. I also had a big drawing book, therefore, I felt it was an advantage for me to draw large sizes of images and still life objects.
Some of the disadvantages I faced are, coming up with ideas, finding objects to draw, and having the skills to skillfully draw something. Although, I did say there are plenty of things to draw, I could not decide on what. There some things that were too difficult that I was sure they'd look extremely bad if I drew them. While there were many simple things that I thought were too simple, such as that joystick, I really do think it's too simple. Also, I believe that I'm not that great of a sketcher/drawer. I like to draw but I don't have much of an imagination to draw something from memory, I don't have much talent, therefore, I just end up using google to find things I can draw, but thankfully, I had something to look at and draw, otherwise, it would've looked extremely horrid.
All in all, I kind of had fun working on this, I would've had more fun if I was creative, but I'll leave my creativity to shine throughout my last year or school.
